How 5gear saves you money

Right now 101,089 of the products we track — about 37% of the catalogue — are showing a discount. When that many things are on sale at once, the tag on its own tells you almost nothing. Everything below exists to answer the only question that matters: is this actually cheap, and is now the moment to buy?

• See what it really sold for. Every product has a price history going back to the first time we saw it, and we record the lowest price we have ever tracked. A “was $299.99, now $99.99” tag looks very different once you can see the thing sat at $109 for the last three months.
• Buy at the bottom, not on the day you happened to look. Set a price alert on anything and we'll email you when it drops, or when it hits a target price you choose. It keeps watching until you stop it — so you can decide what a product is worth to you, then wait for the market to agree rather than paying today's number.
• Search 84 retailers at once. One search covers every store we track, so finding who is currently listing a brand or a type of gear cheapest takes one query instead of 84 browser tabs.
• Filter down to real discounts. Set a minimum discount, sort by the biggest markdowns, cap your budget, or narrow to one store or brand — then save that search and come back to it as new stock lands.
• Pay the retailer's price, not ours. We don't sell anything and we take no cut of what you spend, so nothing here is ranked by what pays us best.

Where the numbers come from

We check retailer websites regularly, typically daily, and write down a new price only when it actually changes — so a product's history is a record of real movements rather than a log of us looking. Every product card shows when it was last checked. Prices can still change between our check and your click, so confirm the final price on the retailer's site before you buy.

What we don't do

We don't sell anything. When you're ready to buy, we send you straight to the retailer — no markups, no middleman, no commission baked into the price you see. We also don't claim two listings at different stores are the same item: each retailer's product is tracked on its own terms, and we show you what each one is charging rather than guessing at matches.

Venues and social sessions

Gear is only half of it. We also list badminton, table tennis, pickleball, tennis and squash venues across Australia, with the regular casual sessions you can just turn up to — the kind of drop-in game that is otherwise hard to find listed anywhere.
